The Master’s Program consists of 3 main stages:
-Journalistic Writing: Over the course of three months, students will become familiar with the basics of news reporting and the various journalistic genres and styles with an emphasis on the production of articles. Students will review the different styles of forming texts beginning with an exercise in cable writing in order to become proficient in writing news articles in their purest form. The methodology of the program will incorporate the use of workshops based on the production of articles that will be analyzed and corrected by a professor to improve students’ writing abilities. In addition, students will attend press conferences and seminars and complete an internship. The internship is three months long and will focus on developing and improving writing abilities, as well as expanding the students’ ability to analyze and think critically.
-Newspaper Section: During the second trimester, students will work with the editors of specific sections of a newspaper in order to gain specialized knowledge on the subject, drafting and editing, and the specifics of their coverage. Students will use the skills they developed in the previous trimester to effectively take notes for article writing. During this stage students will also take classes on investigative journalism, in order to begin work on their thesis which will be due at the end of the program.
-Editing: During the last months of the year, the classroom will truly become an editing office. Everything students learned and worked on over the previous trimesters will result in the editing process. Students will take on the role of drafters and editors and will begin to incorporate graphic media into the specific sections.
