We know that arriving in a new country can be both exciting and overwhelming — that’s why Mente Argentina provides a personalized Welcome to Buenos Aires & Local Orientation led by your dedicated Program Coordinator.

Upon your arrival, your Coordinator will personally meet you at your accommodation to welcome you and deliver your Mente Argentina Welcome Kit. During this orientation, you’ll receive essential information about your program, daily life in Buenos Aires, and the local porteño culture — from navigating public transportation and finding nearby amenities to insider recommendations for cafés, supermarkets, and local events.

You’ll also enjoy access to theater performances, tango shows, and other cultural events that showcase Argentina’s artistic soul. Beyond the experiences themselves, these outings are a perfect opportunity to meet locals and connect with other Mente Argentina participants from around the world.

Immerse yourself in Argentina’s rich cultural heritage through hands-on experiences that go beyond the classroom. Learn the language of Buenos Aires through music, movement, and shared traditions.

Take part in group tango lessons led by local instructors — a fun and authentic way to experience one of Argentina’s most iconic art forms. You’ll also join cultural gatherings that celebrate mate, Argentina’s national drink, and discover the customs, etiquette, and social meaning behind this beloved ritual.

I have been here for two weeks. I did a tango program and some wine courses, and it was absolutely an amazing experience. The classes were very good because of the quality of the classwork and the quality of the teachers. The people working at Mente were amazing. They made my journey really so cool, and I had such a great time. All the activities around my stay were a lot of fun. We did La Bomba, which was really a lot of fun. We went to El Tigre. We did an excursion on the boat. We did a couple of city tours, like walking tours, La Boca and within Buenos Aires. That was really amazing. Overall I had a great, great time. It was definitely something I would want to repeat in the future, and I encourage everyone to do the same.

Hi, I'm Stephanie Cohen. I'm from Ohio, and I go to the University of Michigan. I came to Argentina to learn a little bit about wine and Spanish, so I took some courses in Spanish. That was a great time. I met a lot of really cool people. Then I took several different classes about wine, and I had some private lessons. I learned a lot about the tasting and the procedure of making wine, and it made me more confident about what I wanted to do in the future. I also took some cooking lessons. Some were at a professional school, and others were just with an adorable lady who taught me more about Argentina, her life in Argentina, and the food. That was a lot of fun. Overall I had a great time, and I highly recommend it.

Hi, my name is Simon. I'm from Hong Kong. I came on the Mente program for four weeks in Buenos Aires. During these four weeks I did the Spanish class for four weeks. At the same time I did the wine program and a barman program. Both are really fun. In the barman program we learn about mixing cocktails and a little bit of flair. At the same time we create our own signature cocktails. In the wine program we learn a lot about Argentine wine history, the industry, and everything about Torrontés, which is world famous. During these four weeks Mente was extremely helpful, and they arranged lots and lots of fun programs and activities for us, so it is packed with activities. I am really glad. This is amazing here in Buenos Aires. The culture, the people, the bife de chorizo, and the wine. Everything is great, so enjoy it.

Hi everyone, I'm Jesse, 24 years old, from the Netherlands, and I just spent the past five weeks with Mente doing a combination of the wine program and the intensive Spanish program. I think Mente was a great experience for me. The good thing I found with Mente was that it is very immersive. I had a lot of Spanish lessons and also a lot of wine classes in Spanish, and that for me was a great way to learn. The people were excited to be here. Also, big thanks to the staff, who were always there when I ran into issues. I had a great time.

If you are considering Mente Argentina, I highly recommend it. I had a great experience here. I had some experience with Argentina before being part of this program, so I came with a high level of expectation, and I was not disappointed. I really enjoyed the excursions and the social time, but I also had an opportunity to see Argentina as someone who lived here. Before, I had come here on weekends, but when you live someplace you have a very different experience. I highly recommend that you leave all of your expectations at home, that you come with your eyes wide open and your heart open, and that you enjoy the food, the wine, the company, and speaking castellano. He is a good guy. All of the gestures and everything. The people here at the program were fantastic. There was not one detail that was overlooked, and I highly suggest that you come here to Argentina. My name is Scott Coleman, and I was part of the wine tasting and the cooking classes, as well as photography. By far my favorite was the photography. It was a surprise. Try something new. If you see all of the offerings, try something new that you have never done before.

Hi, I'm Stephanie. I came to Buenos Aires for three weeks with Mente Argentina, and I did the wine course here for two weeks and had some one-to-one lessons in Spanish. I loved the wine course. It was great. It was this tiny little school up in Las Cañitas, which is a very nice neighborhood too. They took very good care of me, and we had wine tasting classes, which were really fun, tasting a lot of different wines from all over the Mendoza and Salta regions. Then I had some private lessons where I got to know some theory about the wine, the grapes, and so on. I lived in Palermo in a private apartment, which is really, really nice, very spacious, with a lot of light and a nice view. I enjoyed my stay. I was sad that I had to leave, and I can really recommend Mente Argentina.

Hi, my name is Martina. I'm from the Czech Republic, and I came to Argentina to do the intensive sommelier program with Mente. The program was really excellent. It exceeded all my expectations. I learned everything I wanted to learn. I really like that you can select the courses that you like, and in that way you can really learn what interests you. I highly recommend this program for whoever is interested in this topic, or in Argentine wine.

Hi guys, I'm Will. I'm from England, and I've spent the last two months here with Mente Argentina doing a wine program. I would definitely recommend coming to Argentina, and if you're interested in learning about the local culture, studying Spanish, and learning about wine, then I would definitely recommend Mente. The thing I like most about the organization is their willingness to help you with any problems you have. They're so friendly and approachable. I found this aspect of Mente really positive. Regarding the course, I learned so much about the wine from Argentina. The quality of the teaching was extremely high. I would definitely recommend taking a program with Mente.

Hi, I'm Adrienne. I'm from Australia, and I just finished the two-week intensive wine course. I was there for four weeks during the program, also at the wine school. My favorite part about the program was Jorge, the instructor. I didn't speak any Spanish, so I was glad to see the English teacher, and the English instruction was really nice. He is very knowledgeable about the grapes, really fun, and we took a lot away from it.

My name is Katherine. I'm from Chicago, and I did the two-week intensive wine course here in Buenos Aires. I stayed in a homestay with a woman in Recoleta, and I also had another girl from Mente who was living with me, so we got to explore the city together and have a great time. Every night I did wine tasting with a bunch of porteños and learned a lot about Argentine wines and how to taste wine in general. I also took one-on-one classes with a guy named Jorge, where I learned a lot more about the science of wine and got to do one-on-one tutoring lessons. The classes also gave me a lot of time to explore the city with other international travelers, and also with other locals, so I could get to know the city and have a lot of free time, but also take these really cool classes.

Sidney Bowie, University of California

My name is Sidney. I'm from Southern California. I came with my dad to do a two-month wine program. I went to this thermal water spa for the day. Swimming in the river was nice, and the ambience was amazing. I lived in Palermo. I couldn't have picked a better location. I thought I had been here two months, I know, but I really couldn't have lived somewhere better. I loved the people I met in Argentina. I can look at the world, and there are not a lot of people that way. I had some chances to practice my Spanish in my living situation, with people from all over the world, and I really loved the people I met there. Some of them were with Mente, some of them not, but I hung out with them all day. We did the basics, and we were all really close. We were all doing things around. I did a lot of Mente activities. I did the day in El Tigre. I did Colonia. I did a drum show, and that was amazing. We got like a 40-minute tour, and I am not a big tour fan, but it was the perfect amount to know just enough to spend the day there. Then we climbed the lighthouse and spent the afternoon. I went to a really great wine tasting place there, then sat by the beach for the sunset and took the ferry back to Buenos Aires. It was a beautiful day, one of the first things I did here. What I love about Buenos Aires is that you can always find something to do. Every night there is something. For example, this past weekend, on Saturday, I went to the museum night, and over 100 museums all through the city were open through the night until like three in the morning. That was free. I love the museum experience, and I study art history, so I got to see a lot of museums, and that night was really fun. The following night I went with one of my friends from that day to an aerial tango show. I can even find something completely different to do. I didn't get to do half the things I would have wanted to. You could spend six months and still not get to see and do everything. I was just worried that I would get lost in the city, but with Mente they are there for you no matter what you need. It is nice to be able to email someone. Even normal travel concerns that come up, it is nice to have someone that you can go to and not just have to figure it out on your own. They always know the best places to do things and the best places to go for help. If you are drinking Argentine wine, you have to have Malbec. My wine teacher, as my farewell gift, gave me a free bottle. It was a Malbec, and it was fantastic. I don't mind that one.

Frequently Asked Questions

About the Program

You can take the Wine Program from 1 week up to 16 weeks.

The Intensive Wine Program lasts 1 or 2 weeks, with classes four times a week. The Regular Wine Program lasts 4, 8, 12 or 16 weeks, with classes three times a week. Both focus on Argentine wine, tasting and wine culture, and leave room on a longer stay for Spanish, another program and independent time in Buenos Aires.

No. The Wine Program is designed for all levels of wine knowledge, including complete beginners. You will learn a practical tasting method, how to recognize aromas and flavors, and how grape varieties, regions and production choices influence the wine in your glass.

You will explore emblematic varieties such as Malbec and Torrontés and major wine regions including Mendoza, Salta and Patagonia. Classes also look at climate, altitude, terroir, production and the cultural role of wine in Argentina.

Yes. Guided tasting is a core part of the program. The purpose is not simply to drink wine, but to learn how to evaluate aroma, flavor, structure, variety and regional differences with guidance from the instructor.

No. The Short Wine Program is an educational and cultural wine experience and includes a Mente Argentina certificate of completion. It does not qualify you as a professional sommelier. If professional sommelier training is your goal, see the Intensive Sommelier Program.

No. The program takes place in Buenos Aires and introduces wines from Argentina's major producing regions through classes and tastings. A trip to Mendoza or another wine region can be a great addition to your stay, but it is not required to participate.

Yes. Participants must be at least 18 years old because the program includes wine tasting and 18 is the legal drinking age in Argentina.

Booking and Payments

Booking is simple. Create your Mente Argentina account, complete the basic application with your preferred dates and program details, and pay the Registration Fee to secure your place.

You do not need to have every flight, document or accommodation detail finalized on day one. You can update your application as those details become available.

Most Mente Argentina programs do not have one universal application deadline, but places are first come, first served and availability can become limited, especially for accommodation and small-group programs.

If you already know when you would like to come, applying early gives you the best choice. If your preferred start date is close, contact us and we will tell you what is still possible.

The Registration Fee is the one-time payment that confirms your place with Mente Argentina and starts the enrollment process. You pay it once, even if you combine more than one Mente program.

Your Registration Fee remains valid for two years from the date it was originally paid. Within that period, you can postpone your program, change dates, switch programs or return to Mente Argentina without paying a new Registration Fee.

Yes. You can combine up to three compatible Mente Argentina programs during the same weeks, and we coordinate the schedules to avoid conflicts. Two simultaneous programs is the most common combination.

If you want to do four or more experiences, the best approach is usually to spread them across different weeks—for example, two programs during the first part of your stay and two different programs later. You can also mix durations, such as four weeks of Spanish with a two-week Tango or Cooking Program.

Usually, yes. Extensions are possible subject to space in your program and accommodation.

If you think you may want to stay longer, tell us as early as possible; around three weeks' notice gives us a better chance of keeping everything continuous. You do not need to decide before you arrive.

Planning Your Stay

Yes. International and domestic flights are not included in the program fee, so you book your own travel to Buenos Aires.

If your on-site package includes Mente Argentina accommodation, arrival and departure transfers are included at no extra charge from either Ezeiza International Airport (EZE) or Aeroparque (AEP). Send us your flight details once they are confirmed; you can secure your program before buying your flights.

Mente Argentina offers accommodation in popular Buenos Aires neighborhoods such as Palermo, Belgrano, Barrio Norte and Recoleta. Depending on the program, you can choose a shared apartment with a private room, student residence, homestay or private apartment.

Wi-Fi, utilities and weekly cleaning service are included at no extra cost in every Mente Argentina accommodation type. Homestay meals are not included by default; participants can add them. Other options include a kitchen so you can cook. Common spaces vary by housing type.

Yes. If you already have a place to stay in Buenos Aires, ask us for the program-only option.

Our standard packages are designed to make the whole experience easy, but you do not need to pay for accommodation you already have arranged.

It depends on your nationality, length of stay and program. Many participants can enter Argentina without arranging a visa in advance, while longer academic programs or some nationalities require additional immigration documentation.

Mente Argentina is registered with RENURE and can provide the documentation and guidance required for eligible student-residence or visa processes. Check the current Visa Information page or contact us with your nationality and program length before making immigration decisions.

Yes. Current Argentine migration rules require foreign entrants to declare that they have valid health insurance for their stay.

We recommend a travel policy that includes medical coverage for your full time in Argentina and, ideally, protection for cancellations, delays and luggage as well. You may choose any provider that gives you appropriate coverage in Argentina.

You will have a local Mente Argentina team in Buenos Aires throughout your program, including arrival orientation and 24/7 support for unexpected situations.

All on-site participants also receive the same core Mente benefits: a local SIM, SUBE public-transport card, gym access, access to Mente Argentina's exclusive Palermo Soho space and terrace, the participant WhatsApp community, and a rotating calendar of Included Buenos Aires Experiences.

Our team is based locally, so support is not just a phone number. You can reach us for practical questions, local recommendations, program coordination or help if something unexpected happens.

Your on-site program includes a rotating calendar of curated social, cultural and local experiences in Buenos Aires, with tickets and participation included at no extra cost.

Depending on the week, these can include theater performances, football experiences, guided neighborhood or city tours, bike tours, museum visits, Argentine barbecues, dinners, food events, happy hours and other paid activities around the city.

These are organized experiences designed to help you discover Buenos Aires, meet other participants and become part of the Mente Argentina community—not simply a list of free things to do.
