Why Study Cooking in Buenos Aires with Mente Argentina – Tristan, South Africa/USA

Tristan from South Africa and the U.S. joined us in 2019 for our Degree in Culinary Arts Program. He also participated in our Intensive Spanish Program throughout his time with us in Buenos Aires. Here is his story…

My name is Tristan and I live in Arkansas in the USA. I have always loved travelling with my parents and have been fortunate to visit many different countries and learn about their cultures and foods. My family has always loved socializing over good food and both my parents are excellent cooks. There is where my love for cooking comes from.

Arkansas is not known for its diversity in food so I have always enjoyed making my own recipes from a young age. As my skills improved, I found that my cooking was often better than we could find in local restaurants. This is how I developed a passion for cooking. My favorite thing to do is travel, meet new people and learn new recipes that I can then try and make myself. I also enjoy learning about new cultures and how they have impacted the world we live in.

I knew that a career in the culinary world was what I wanted from a young age. Once I graduated high school, I started doing some research into different culinary schools. I was looking for a way to merge my love for cooking with that of travelling and learning about new cultures. This is when I came across Mente Argentina and the culinary program that they offer.

I spent hours on the web reading about the program and watching the testimonial videos of other students who attended the program. Everyone was extremely positive of the program and the experiences they had while living in Buenos Aires. I was also impressed by the excellent reputation that the culinary school has a one of the leading culinary schools in Latin America.
