Why Intern in Buenos Aires with Mente Argentina – Adali, Mexico

Adali from Mexico joined us in 2020 for our Internship Program. Here is her story…

When going into my undergraduate career, having any experience abroad has always been a goal I wanted to achieve before graduating. I couldn’t wait to get the opportunity to completely engulf myself in a different culture, be able to understand the complexity of the Spanish language and be surrounded by new people. I chose Latin America since it’s a region that I don’t believe gets as much credit as it should. It’s full of rich cultures, immense history, and incredible sceneries that are easily overlooked.

Having the opportunity to be part of an international program would greatly enhance my academic goals. I chose to emphasize in the Latin American region in order to focus more on the Spanish language and the different linguistic varieties within it. On the other hand, I would also be getting a different viewpoint on many issues at hand. I have been taught the way the U.S. views a wide range of political and social issues but never really been shown how the rest of the world views them. This type of program will allow me to acquire a more global perspective on the issues at hand allowing me to think more critically of them. It will show me how the implications of trade regulation and policy application tend to impact the world around me.

As per my professional goals, I believe the Latin American region has huge opportunities for businesses that are not taken advantage of. Since Buenos Aires Argentina is one the best places to fulfill my Internship within Latin America, I got the opportunity to see what kind of diversified business models are in place and find ways to implement business models from the U.S. into the ones that already exist. Nonprofit organizations in Argentina, for example, aren’t as popular as they are here in the United States, so my goal is to implement the models used in the U.S. to help these organizations grow both locally and internationally.

The offered program in Argentina has always been something I have looked forward to. I got the opportunity to experience the natural wonders of the country while still being able to learn the work environment in a place that would be very beneficial to both my educational and professional goals.
