And We Danced: salsa & tango with mente argentina

Buenos Aires Study Abroad TangoEvery month on a Thursday, Mente Argentina takes over the dance floor at La Viruta. (Armenia 1366)  The night begins with a group salsa lesson and after the group splits into a beginner lesson, with intensive instructions, and advanced salsa dancing, with an instructor walking around to give pointers.  After a while, everyone can practice their new moves or switch to dancing tango.  During the night, Mente participants share beers, pizza, and catch
up together.  Some participants come to dance for the first time, however others are true professionals, commanding the room with their moves.  The latter, often making it look easy, help teach other participants new skills.

La Viruta is a milonga (tango club and dance party event), where many beginners come to learn the basics of tango, salsa, and rock-and-roll dance.  Classes are held every day, except Monday. (Class Schedule)  The teachers are all very talented, professional dancers, many of whom speak English fluently.  La Viruta has a full bar and large food menu and food and drinks are served until 3:30AM.  The salsa classes, which is the center of the night on Thursdays, is taught Cuban style, by handsome Cuban teachers.  Many experienced Salsa dancers come later in the night during practice hours.  There is never a dull moment of  Mente Thursdays at La Viruta, come join us next time!

Buenos Aires Study Abroad TangoBuenos Aires has a rich history of both tango and salsa.  Tango was created in Buenos Aires, as a dance for working class people.  What began in the streets of La Boca has now become a world-wide celebrated dance.   People come from all over the world to study tango with Mente Argentina‘s Tango Program.  Students of all ages can come study tango at any level.  We have received professional dancers and people who have never tried tango before.  We have had students who are over 70 years old, with two left feet, come to take classes and leave Buenos Aires as if they were dancing their whole lives.  It is never too late to learn!
