Song of the week: Oscar Alemán

Oscar Alemán is a jazz guitarist and composer who was born into a musical family in northern Argentina.  He was part of a family jazz ensemble at a young age and had the opportunity to travel to Buenos Aires to play at some of the major venues.  Unfortunately by the age of 10 he was orphaned when his mother passed away and his father committed suicide.  Subsequently he danced and played music in the street and later in bars and clubs to support himself.

Alemán spent the 1930’s in Europe where he befriended and played with some of the greats in jazz history, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, and Django Reinhardt.  In the 1940’s Alemán was forced to move back to Argentina at the start of  World War II. There he further developed his swingin’ style and put out some hits such as this one.

Enjoy 🙂
